How to Set Up Item-Level Taxes
Item-Level Taxes
Item-level taxes in SwipeSimple let you assign specific tax rates directly to individual items in your catalog, so the correct tax is applied automatically every time that item is sold. This is especially useful if your business sells a mix of taxable and non-taxable items, or if different products need different tax rates.
Setting Up Tax Rates
Before you can assign taxes to items, you'll need to create your tax rates in SwipeSimple. You can add as many rates as your business needs and name them however makes sense -- by rate, region, or product type.
Assigning Taxes to Items
Once your rates are created, you can assign a tax rate to any item in your catalog. You can do this when creating a new item or by editing an existing one. Once assigned, that tax rate will apply automatically any time the item is added to a sale.
How Item-Level Taxes Work at Checkout
When a taxable item is added to a transaction, SwipeSimple calculates the tax automatically based on the rate assigned to that item. If a sale includes a mix of taxable and non-taxable items, only the applicable items are taxed -- no manual calculation needed.
